Pro Trade Joint Sealant LM - Technical Details, Specifications, and Features

Product Overview

Pro Trade Joint Sealant LM is a non-slumping polyurethane joint sealant manufactured by Selleys, designed as a high-performance, one-component elastic adhesive and sealant. The product combines advanced polyurethane technology with low modulus properties, making it ideal for versatile construction and sealing applications in both indoor and outdoor environments.

Key Features

The sealant offers several distinctive advantages for professional applications:

  • High Flexibility: Provides +/-25% joint movement capability, accommodating significant structural shifts and expansion/contraction cycles
  • Excellent Adhesion: Demonstrates superior bonding to common building materials including concrete, masonry, brick, ceramic tile, metals, soft wood, hardwood, and select plastics
  • No Shrinkage During Curing: Maintains dimensional stability throughout the curing process, preventing gaps and reducing maintenance issues
  • Cures Bubble-Free: Produces smooth, professional finishes without air pockets or surface defects
  • Paintable: Compatible with water-based paints after curing; solvent-based paints require water-based primer undercoat
  • Weatherproof: Provides excellent resistance to aging and weathering, suitable for exposed exterior applications

Product Forms and Packaging

Pro Trade Joint Sealant LM is available in multiple configurations to accommodate different application requirements:

Available Formats:

  • Foil Sausage: 600 mL containers
  • Cartridge: 310 mL containers

Standards and Certifications

Pro Trade Joint Sealant LM meets rigorous industry standards:

  • EN 15651 Certification: Conforms to requirements for sealants for non-structural use in joints in buildings and pedestrian walkways
  • Acoustic Compatibility: Will not degrade acoustic walls that meet Building Code of Australia (BCA) requirements

Recommended Applications

The sealant is designed for multiple construction and sealing applications:

  • Expansion and construction joint sealing in vertical and horizontal configurations
  • External wall and cladding joints, including precast and tilt-up panels
  • Weatherproofing joints between brickwork, masonry, concrete, cladding, wood, or metal frames
  • External joints in walls and around window or door frames
  • Joints in bridge and balcony parapets
  • Retaining walls and roofing applications
  • Acoustic-rated wall construction
  • Adhesive bonding for window sills, thresholds, stair steps, skirting boards, base boards, crash protection boards, and prefabricated elements

Joint Configuration Requirements

Optimal sealant performance requires specific joint dimensions and preparation:

Recommended Width-to-Depth Ratios:

  • For joint widths up to 12 mm: use a 1:1 width-to-depth ratio
  • For joint widths greater than 12 mm: use a 2:1 width-to-depth ratio
  • Minimum joint width and depth: 10 mm

Essential Installation Requirements:

  • Install suitable diameter backing rod (polyethylene or polyurethane foam rod) to control sealant depth and ensure free movement
  • Sealant must adhere to joint sides only, not the back, allowing free stretching
  • Wider joints accommodate more total movement than narrow joints

Coverage Data

The following coverage estimates assist in material planning:

Joint Width Joint Depth Coverage per 600 mL
5 mm 8 mm 5 m
20 mm 10 mm 3 m
25 mm 12 mm 2 m
30 mm 15 mm 1.3 m
35 mm 15 mm 1.1 m

Storage and Shelf Life

  • Shelf Life: 15 months when stored in original packaging
  • Storage Conditions: Keep away from direct sunlight and moisture, maintain temperature between 10°C and 25°C
  • Container Storage: Store in cool, dry conditions below 30°C

Safety and Hazard Classification

Pro Trade Joint Sealant LM has been classified as not hazardous according to Safe Work Australia GHS 7 criteria. The product is not classified as dangerous goods under Australian transport regulations (Australian Code for the Transport of Dangerous Goods by Road & Rail) or New Zealand standards (NZS5433), and meets international maritime and air transport safety criteria.

Limitations

  • Not recommended for continuous submersion or below water-line use
  • Cannot be applied on frozen or wet surfaces or through standing water
  • Will not adhere to polyethylene or polypropylene; adhesion testing is recommended for other plastics
