| Handy Tips | Do not use kerosene, turps or other material to aid in working the putty. Putty should be used as supplied. Extreme variations in working temperature or long periods of storage under hot or cold conditions can cause a variation in properties. This can be overcome by 'working up' the putty in the hands to achieve smooth, pliable consistency. Remove product skin before use. Paint putty between 2-4 weeks after application for best results. Apply an oil based undercoat. The top coat can be water or oil based paint. High humidity, cold weather and use in interior applications can extended skinning times. Product should be painted to prevent deterioration. Wind loadings in exposed areas or on large areas of glass (over 2m2) may cause 'pumping' of the putty. In these cases it is more appropriate to use elastomeric sealant in place of putty. |

| Limitations | Not suitable for use with heat absorbing glass. Bead glazing should be used for glass sizes over 1.25m2. Not recommended for use with timber stains, timber oils or clear varnish finishes in exterior applications. These finishes do not provide sufficient protection from weathering, which can result in short service life of putty, and frequent replacement may be necessary. Oil may separate in large containers, if stored for long periods. This needs to be 'worked' back into the putty. Not recommended for use where structural movement may occur. Not recommended for use in metal framed windows. For glazing, New Zealand users must refer to NZS 4228 to ensure required compliance. |
| Directions for Use | For filling nail holes and cracks: 1. For nail heads and cracks, prime timber and nail heads with an oil-based primer and leave to dry. 2. Soften putty in fingers and apply directly to areas, forcing the putty in well to ensure a complete fill. Smooth over flush to surface. 3. For all exterior applications or where a painted finish is desired, paint putty between 1 and 4 weeks after application. 4. Apply an oil-based undercoat, and top coat with either oil or water–based paint. For glazing: 1. Window frame rebate and glazing beads should be coated with an oil-based primer to avoid loss of oil into the timber. Rebate and glass should be clean and dry, rigid, free from distortion, true and square. Glass should be positioned in the frame so that a minimum 1.6mm clearance exists between the glass and the frame. 2. Recommended rebate depths: 10mm for 3-4mm glass and 15mm for 5-8mm glass. Rebate width should allow for recommended 12mm of front putty. 3. Remove any surface skin from the putty before use. Soften putty with fingers. Apply to rear of rebate. 4. Install glass, squeezing out putty to approximately 2mm between glass and frame. Fix glass with pins and apply putty to face up front. If using wooden glazing beads, apply additional putty in rebate. Install bead squeezing out putty to approximately 2mm thickness between glass and bead. 5. Putty can be applied by hand or with a knife. A few drops of linseed oil on the hands or putty knife will make for easier working. |
